CIDD Spring Tour Hosts Japan Debate Association

March 8, 2018

Every other spring semester, the NCA Committee on International Discussion and Debate (CIDD) collaborates with the Japan Debate Association (JDA) to celebrate debate in an intercultural dialogue, hosting debaters around the country. CIDD Chair John Rief, past CIDD Chair John Kephart, and Tour Coordinator Brianne Giese have created a multi-week debate tour, while also coordinating opportunities for the debaters to volunteer with local urban debate leagues. As part of the partnership, CIDD sends two debaters to Japan every other summer for a similar tour organized by the JDA.

The selected debaters for the tour are often highly recognized in their local and national debate circuits and hold an interest (and often professional experience) in intercultural dialogue on various current events. This year, we are honored to host Kanaru Sato of the University of Tokyo and Takuya Higuchi of St. Paul’s University, who will visit seven colleges and universities around the United States.

The tour began on February 25 and will end on March 9. If you’re interested in attending a public debate, or would like more information about the tour, visit Facebook.com/CIDDTours.
