104th Annual Convention Update
The NCA 104th Annual Convention, “Communication at Play,” will bring together Communication scholars November 8-11 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to discuss emerging research in Communication. Convention planner, NCA First Vice President Star Muir, says the convention also will provide rich metaphorical resources for reconsidering the role and function of communication in breaking impasses, challenging cultural practice, providing perspective, and creating connections.
The NCA Opening Session will be a conversation between historical figures who are relevant to our discipline to help us glean insights into our current condition by revisiting the lessons of the past. The Carroll C. Arnold Distinguished Lecture, titled “Gunplay,” will be presented by Joshua Gunn of the University of Texas at Austin. The convention also will feature a “Play Space,” a dedicated area for attendees to explore the nature of communication at play. The Play Space will include several scheduled blocks of programming as well as unscheduled and unstructured time.
Publisher Kendall Hunt will again sponsor a Day of Service event, where convention attendees will fill back sacks with school supplies for local students, and, as always, intellectually compelling and creative programs will be delivered by our attendees.
The full program will be available online in July at NCA Convention Central, where you will also be able to register and make hotel reservations. Stay tuned for a specific registration date, mark your calendar, and make plans to join us in Salt Lake City this year!
