Western States Communication Association
The Western States Communication Association (WSCA) held its 90th annual conference in Seattle, WA, February 22-25, 2019. The theme of the conference was “Advocating With Evidence,” conceived of and planned by WSCA President-Elect Rodney Reynolds. The conference was marked by high rates of submission, excellent participation, and lively dialogue. We were fortunate to hear from guest speakers David Domke and Natasha Jankowski. Each speaker highlighted our moments as scholars for agency and change.
WSCA President Brian Heisterkamp hosted the annual luncheon, at which time the association announced several awards. El Camino College received the 2019 Model Communication Program Award. Sarah Tracy of Arizona State University accepted the 2019 Distinguished Teacher Award. Kory Floyd of University of Arizona was honored as the 2019 Distinguished Scholar. Finally, Kathy Adams was awarded the association’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, for a lifetime of contributions to the Western States Communication Association.

Central States Communication Association
Registration is still open for #CSCA19 and spaces are filling up quickly! Standard rates apply, as the early bird period ended on March 5. The theme for the CSCA Preconference is “Teaching Communication with Global Mindfulness.” The preconference is divided into three sessions that you won’t want to miss.

Eastern Communication Association Gears Up for 2019 Convention
The 110th Annual Convention of the Eastern Communication Association (ECA) is set to take place on April 10-14, 2019, in Providence, Rhode Island. This year’s theme is “Creating Our Future,” and ECA Vice President Katherine Thweatt has crafted a schedule full of highly competitive papers and panels, special programming, community engagement, and fun outings.
There are several special programming options in which to participate. On Wednesday, ECA will host the Basic Course Conference, organized by Candice Thomas-Maddox and Sara Weintraub. Sara LaBelle has coordinated three short courses, and Vice President-Elect Jennifer Waldeck is overseeing several sessions dedicated to “Creating Our Future Through Community Impact.”
Attendees are also encouraged to visit the 9th Annual James C. McCroskey and Virginia P. Richmond Undergraduate Scholars Conference (USC). This year, USC Directors Meredith Harriman and Atsushi Tajima have organized more than a dozen sessions of competitive papers and panel discussions. Graduate and undergraduate posters will also compete for Top Poster prizes.
No ECA convention would be complete without special activities in the community. This year, Second Vice President Julie Volkman has arranged for several outings, including tickets to a PawSox game and a trip to the Lizzie Borden house.
