Recent and Upcoming Episodes of Communication Matters

The latest episodes of Communication Matters: The NCA Podcast highlighted issues related to rhetoric and political communication. 

On January 14, the principal investigators of the Virtual Martin Luther King, Jr. Project (vMLK) at North Carolina State University joined Communication Matters to discuss their project, which recreates one of Dr. King’s iconic speeches using digital technology. Victoria Gallagher, Derek Ham, and Keon Pettiway answered questions regarding the project’s design, the importance of Dr. King’s “A Creative Protest” speech, the use of vMLK in teaching, and much more! 

The January 28 episode focused on President Joe Biden’s inaugural address. Four scholars of presidential rhetoric, Stephen Browne (Pennsylvania State University), Theon Hill (Wheaton College), John Murphy (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), and Allison Prasch (University of Wisconsin, Madison) joined the podcast to discuss the challenges of planning an inauguration during the COVID-19 pandemic, the political context of Biden’s speech, and the history of inaugural addresses. 

A variety of exciting episodes of Communication Matters: The NCA Podcast are planned for 2021. New episodes of Communication Matters are released every other Thursday. Upcoming episodes include:

  • February 11: Reynaldo Anderson (Harris-Stowe State University) and Lonny J. Avi Brooks (California State University East Bay) will discuss Afrofuturism. The episode will address topics related to Afrofuturism, including definitions of Afrofuturism, examples of Afrofuturism, and the importance of Afrofuturism today.
  • February 14: A special Valentine’s Day episode of Communication Matters will tackle the challenges facing relationships during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Liesel Sharabi (Arizona State University) and Stephanie T. Tong (Wayne State University) offering their insights.
