Association for Chinese Communication Studies
At the NCA 103rd Annual Convention in Dallas, the Association for Chinese Communication Studies (ACCS) announced two new awards to inspire its members to continue producing top-notch research related to Chinese communication studies. Dongjing Kang (Florida Gulf Coast University) received the Outstanding Thesis/Dissertation Award, and Lin Zhu (University of Massachusetts Boston) received the Early Career Award.
The ACCS has continued to attract donations from friends of ACCS, including a generous donation from Professor of Communication Xiao Xiaosui of Hong Kong Baptist University. ACCS will use this gift to establish the Xiao-Wu Scholarship Fund to promote the study of rhetorical communication.
On October 23, the ACCS held its third virtual brown bag panel on WeChat, a popular mobile messaging app in Greater China, on the topic of health communication. The panel was chaired by Qinghua Yang (Texas Christian University), and included guest speakers Xiaoli Nan (the University of Maryland), Xiaoquan Zhao (George Mason University), and Bu Zhong (Pennsylvania State University). The three panels held in 2017 attracted more than 300 scholars in Chinese communication studies. Given the increasing popularity of this new platform, ACCS will host more virtual brown bag sessions covering a broad range of topics this year.

First Vice-President Marnel Niles-Goins. Niles-Goins is a Professor in the Department of Communication at California State University, Fresno. She also serves as Graduate Coordinator at CSUF and President of the Organization for Research on Women and Communication. Second Vice-President Justin P. Boren. Boren is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at Santa Clara University, and a new member of the NCA Executive Committee. Moreover, he brings vast service experience, including as a reviewer for the Interpersonal Communication interest group of WSCA and for the LGBTQ caucus and division of NCA, membership on the Western Journal of Communication editorial board, and membership on the Diversity Council of NCA.
